Kenya’s Nyeri highlands host 500 smallholders growing coffee in rich red soils. At 1,850 meters, cool air slows ripening, enhancing sweetness and clarity. Cherries reach Ndiaini Factory by bicycle or wheelbarrow, where careful handling preserves vibrancy. The result is a bright, fruit-layered cup with a clean, elegant finish — a true reflection of Nyeri and its farmers.

In the lush hills of Guadalupe, Huila, lies El Descanso, a 7-hectare farm nurtured by second-generation producer Jose Heider Contreras Mancipe. Spread across four hectares, the farm cultivates 20,000 Castillo and Bourbon Rosado trees at an elevation of 1,600 meters. The cherries are carefully hand-picked, floated for quality selection, and undergo a 36-hour dry fermentation before being washed and slowly dried in a marquesina. This meticulous process highlights the farm’s commitment to quality, drawing out a cup that is sweet, layered, and complex.

Jose Heider is a proud member of Coocentral, a cooperative that supports thousands of smallholder farmers across Huila. Through training initiatives, social programs, and fair premiums, Coocentral helps ensure that coffee farming remains both sustainable and rewarding for families like Jose’s. This partnership not only elevates the quality of the coffee but also strengthens the community, allowing El Descanso’s harvest to reflect both the region’s terroir and the dedication of its people.
